Fincantieri begins production of Italian U212 NFS submarine.

Fincantieri Announced the start of the first production activities of the Italian Navy’s two U212 Near Future Submarines (NFS). Work is being carried out at the company’s Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard in Italy.

Last year, Fincantieri Contract to build two new generation submarines Related logistical support of the Italian Navy. The company acts as the prime contractor for this transaction and is valued at € 1.35 billion ($ 1.64 billion). The U212NFS program also includes related up-and-coming support, options for two additional units, and the establishment of a training center.

The U212 NFS Acquisition Program, led by the International Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR), is based on the U212A Program.As a result of the U212A program, four submarines were produced in Italy: Todalo, Sile, Venuti, Romei, and six in Germany. Under the U212 NFS program, the delivery of the first two submarines is scheduled for 2027 and 2029, respectively. All new submarine design changes will be developed independently by Fincantieri.
